Ghanaian-born Nigeria-based artist El Anatsui is understood for sprawling metallic sculptures that drape, twist, and fold throughout expansive surfaces in colourful, undulating patterns. A forthcoming e-book, El Anatsui: The Reinvention of Sculpture, traces his work and profession that has pushed the boundaries of sculpture, beginning with the terracotta items made within the late Nineteen Seventies. Within the following decade, he transitioned to utilizing wooden and started to experiment with scale, layers, coloration, and sample. These items led to the event of his bigger metallic works, that are made by manually reducing, twisting, or flattening items of aluminum comparable to bottle caps after which stitching the fabric along with copper wire, creating huge, textile-like sculptures.
