The Bratislava-based artist (beforehand) carves pages of discovered novels and different tomes into intricate paper labyrinths of forests and meadows. Usually occupied by a lone hare or fox, the fairytale scenes are imbued with a quiet, calm sense of thriller concerning the machinations of the imagined environments and their inhabitants.

Ouzman shares that she gravitates towards mass-produced volumes in poor situation. “Guide dimension, depth, and paper texture play a giant function in my resolution as nicely, and I typically want to carry a e book in my arms earlier than I can visualise a brand new paintings,” she says. The carving and drawing course of is determined by each the bodily object and the meant narrative, taking between three weeks and three months to finish.
