I’d usually move a mural of the late James Lee Lindsey Jr. on Fundamental Avenue (in Memphis) which ultimately lead me down a rabbit gap to revisiting his physique of labor together with watching the 2009 documentary filmed throughout his final days, Higher Than One thing. I used to be taken by how related his story was to that of many different American icons that have been forward of their time and too-quickly rose from the underside to the highest, inevitably burning out. I learn that his stage identify, Jay Reatard, was worn as a badge of honor after years of being picked on in grade faculty—which can or is probably not why on the quilt of his seminal album Blood Visions he’s lined in blood as a nod to Sissy Spacek’s character in Carrie. Due to this I selected to start the music by repeating ‘they’re all gonna chuckle at you!’ When within the studio I pointed on the final Reatard’s album, Grown Up, Fucked Up, as a reference for what I used to be making an attempt to realize sonically.
