Completely different Trains: America, Earlier than the Warfare
Steve Reich is a legendary composer who was one of many pioneers of minimalism. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music, and the New York Instances known as him “America’s biggest dwelling composer.” I had the unbelievable honor of getting to talk to Steve Reich about his piece Completely different Trains, written for string quartet and pre-recorded efficiency tape. It was first carried out in 1988 by the Kronos Quartet, they usually launched a recording of it in 1989, which gained the Grammy for Greatest Classical Up to date Composition. Completely different Trains is a bit about World Warfare II and the Holocaust. It’s made up of three actions: America – Earlier than the Warfare, Europe – Through the Warfare, and After the Warfare.
