YBCA and Galería de la Raza Current “Pedagogy of Hope: Uncage, Reunify, Heal”

Pedagogy of Hope: Uncage, Reunify, Heal from Galería de la Raza and Yerba Buena Heart for the Arts is a brand new textile and pictures exhibition that surveys the Caravan for the Kids Marketing campaign (the Caravan).
The Caravan launched in January 2021 as a nationwide 100-day effort to demand the discharge, reunification, and therapeutic of migrant kids separated from their households on the US-Mexico Border as a result of forty fifth Presidential Administration’s 2018 Zero Tolerance Coverage. Forcibly eradicating kids from their households for financial or political features has a historic precedent that continues to be repeated on the US-Mexico Border.
Now in its second 12 months, the Caravan continues its name to uncage, reunify, and heal migrant kids. With roughly 1,700 kids nonetheless separated, the objective of the exhibition is to lift consciousness and instantly affect President Biden’s Interagency Process Drive on the Reunification of Households.
The exhibition options outsized handmade quilts created by Colombian-American artist Paola de la Calle, with every sq. foot of quilt representing a migrant youngster separated from their household. Designed as an providing and a heat embrace to migrant kids and their households, every quilt incorporates poetry from literary artists from throughout the US. Juxtaposing visible documentation of migrant kids in detention facilities with symbols of hope and freedom, the quilts inform a narrative of resilience that goals to middle kids and their sacredness.
Pedagogy of Hope: Uncage, Reunify, Heal asks guests to help the Caravan’s efforts by contributing to the coalition’s postcard marketing campaign, which shall be delivered to Washington, DC throughout a march on Sunday, Could 1, 2022.
