Yellowjackets Season 2 Review: Devilishly Fun

The Pitch: When final we left the Wisyakok Yellowjackets, they had been going by some shit in two totally different timelines, and issues solely escalate additional in Season 2. In 1996, the stranded women’ soccer crew (and their scant few surviving male companions) had been gearing up for a harsh winter within the wilderness through which they’ve been stranded, with little meals stewing and brittle conflicts brewing.

Lottie (Courtney Eaton), operating out of antipsychotic meds, has been seeing visions; what’s extra, they’re coming true, main most of the group to start seeing her as a prophet. Shauna (Sophie Nélisse) is reeling from the freezing loss of life of her former bestie, Jackie (Ella Purnell); Taissa’s (Jasmin Savoy Brown) sleepwalking has been getting worse, and the rising issues about meals and chilly are driving the group to darker, extra inhuman locations — ever nearer to the pelt-wearing cannibals teased within the opening minutes of the pilot.

It’s not significantly better for the survivors within the current day, both: Grownup Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) struggles to maintain her homicide of her paramour Adam final season a secret, whilst she ropes her determined husband Jeff (Warren Kole) into the coverup.

In the meantime, Misty (Christina Ricci) works to throw different citizen detectives off Shauna’s scent for Adam’s loss of life, even because it places her within the orbit of one other novice sleuth named Walter (Elijah Wooden). Grownup Taissa’s (Tawny Cypress) sleepwalking is getting her in hassle once more, particularly because the pressures of her latest election to State Senator begin to pile up.

And Natalie (Juliette Lewis) finds herself kidnapped by grownup Lottie’s (Simone Kessell) lavender-clad cult, sticking round to unravel the thriller of fellow survivor Travis’ suicide from the primary season — and to see whether or not Lottie’s seemingly preternatural perception means as a lot because it did again within the wilderness. Whether or not then or now, extra heads will spin, and extra blood will spill earlier than we be taught the reality (and supreme destiny) of those traumatized ladies’s tales.

No Return, No Purpose: Showtime’s Yellowjackets grew to become one in all 2021’s shock TV hits final season, and it’s straightforward to see why. It’s a combo of some issues, in fact: Grownup millennials pining for the ’90s and the celebrities we grew up watching (Lynskey, Ricci, Lewis), a pandemic-era acceptance of our apocalyptic occasions and a want to search out that means within the methods COVID life has modified us.
